By drinking 1 to 3 glasses of green juice daily, the body is being hydrated and cleansed.
Juicing removes the fiber from fruits and vegetables. Although fiber is essential for our health, it also pushes food quickly through our digestive system.
Green juice is free of fiber, so more nutrients are absorbed from juice than from whole fruits and vegetables.
If you do not have a juicer and you are thinking of purchasing one, below is a list of different type of juicers.
Centrifugal Juicer
Advantage
– The speed at which a juicing job can be done, especially when juicing with a wide-mouth juicer.
Disadvantages:
– Is not an effective grass and leaf juicer.
– Pulp generated by a centrifugal juicer is still relatively wet, meaning that some juice goes to waste.
– Juice gets oxidized during juicing because of the high speed of centrifugation. As a result, the juice from a centrifugal juicer should be consumed right away.
Most juicers available in department stores are centrifugal juice machines.
ex. Breville Juicer Fountain Plus
Price: less than $200
Masticating Juicer
Advantages:
– It can extract more juice from the same amount of food (i.e. the pulp comes out drier) than a centrifugal juicer.
– It operates at slower speeds than centrifugal juicers, resulting in less foam and heat, which means more nutrition in your glass.
Disadvantages:
– Slower than centrifugal juicer.
– Less shelf life than twin-gear juicers.
ex. Omega Verte
Champion Juicer 2000 plus
Price: $300-$750
Twin-Gear Juicer
Advantages:
– It operates at very low speed, resulting in less foam and less destruction of nutrients from heat.
– The low speed also decreases the aeration and oxidation of the juice; you can refrigerate and store your juice for a few days.
– The pulp that comes out of twin gear juicers is the driest; this juicer has the highest yield of juice of all types of juicers.
– It extracts as much juice from wheatgrass as the wheatgrass-only type juicers.
Disadvantages:
– Small feed tube, more prep time.
– Time-consuming juice process for making large batches.
– Most expensive.
ex. Green Star Elite
Price: $500 & up
There are many other brand names or models to choose from. The juicers that I listed here have been used by my clients or me.
